What To Do When You Think Your Computer Has a Cold!

bullet

If your system runs slowly, crashes or freezes up, or if there are frequent advertising pop-ups or warning messages, but you can still open and use applications and surf the Internet, you of course should suspect that there is a virus on your computer.  If you have antivirus protection currently installed on your system, update the virus definition library (on-line update) and then perform a thorough scan of your hard drive.  If no viruses are detected (which does not always indicate that your system is virus free) or if multiple viruses are detected and deleted but the symptoms are not resolved, then you should have your system inspected by AiPC or any other qualified computer specialist.

bullet

If you are unable to update your antivirus definitions and/or run your antivirus application, or cannot install a new antivirus application, then you need to have your system immediately inspected and scanned for malware by AiPC or any other qualified computer specialist.

bullet

If your Internet browser or desktop is hijacked (i.e., you have lost access to or control of), then you need to immediately call AiPC or any other qualified computer specialist before touching another key on your keyboard (note: do not shut down your computer until advised on how to do so).  If you cannot get hold of a specialist immediately or do not have time to call immediately, then shut down your system by unplugging it from the wall, power strip or surge protector, and have your system inspected by AiPC or any other qualified specialist.
